We had a farewell dinner here for our wonderful, charming, funny, competent, and thoughtful bus driver Alfonso, who would be leaving us once he dropped us off at Paris. We had so much fun with Alfonso!
We had a private wine tasting at Cave des Cordeliers, which was built in the 1300’s. We were given little stainless steel wine tasters and were taught how to taste wine like a professional.
Blog entry July 19: (You’ll be glad to know that Robin did much better with her French as time went on, and we were able to manage quite well in Paris.) Many of the stores have dogs sleeping on the sales counters. One woman said her dog perks up when she hears English spoken because she knows she will get petted!
We stayed at Hotel des Remparts, loaded with charm and what we called our “Ghost of Beaune.” (Actually it was Paul and Barbara in the room downstairs stoking our fertile imaginations.)
Beaune is pronounced “bone.”
As in every new city, we had to get oriented. When I asked which way we needed to go to reach our next destination, Dottie, Kristin and Robin each pointed in a different direction!
Beaune is a beautiful and charming little French town in the Burgundy region. It was a nice change of pace after the hustle and bustle of the big cities of Italy.
