We were excited when the clouds finally broke and we got to see the mountains.

Having a snowball fight in the Alps—priceless!

The two Jennifers went down with the girls and encouraged them to slide down the slope to reach that little patch of snow while the moms held their breath.
Afterwards, we stopped at the pretty little town of Murren. Some of the kids in our group had gone hang gliding, and we got to watch them while we had lunch there.
These views are just from our hotel room.

Jennifer was our “fearless leader” throughout the trip, always encouraging the girls to try something new.
Blog entry June 18:
Dottie had been to Switzerland before and has been talking about “the cows with bells around their necks” since we began planning this trip. (Kristin had actually forbidden her to mention the word “cow” again once we got to Venice.) We had been in Switzerland for about 36 hours, and it was beginning to seem that we weren’t going to see any cows, and the three of us were starting to worry about how traumatic that was going to be for Dottie. Then, all of a sudden, as we were walking back from Murren, there they were! Some had horns, and the girls thought they were bulls, but they were all as gentle and sweet as could be and very content to have the girls feed them grass, one blade at a time.

As much as Dottie talked about Swiss cows, I talked about getting my “Sound of Music” pictures. I just had to have a picture of the girls on a hill with the mountains in the background. Remember, in my head I had Julie Andrews singing “The hills are alive…” I was so disappointed that we couldn’t find the perfect spot in Austria, the land of the VonTrapp family, but our guide Karoline said not to worry— that I’d get them in Switzerland. Well, she was right, of course. Shortly after we found the cows, we found my “Sound of Music” hill. Dottie and I were both happy campers now.
Blog entry July 18 by Robin and Kristin:
(Keep in mind these are two girls who were born in Florida and had never seen real snow before.)

We had a very fun day today! We saw and touched…SNOW! We were at the top of one of the mountains, 10,000 feet high. The only way to get to the snow was to venture out onto one of the cliffs on the side of the mountain. As our mothers were having cows on the observation deck, we slowly…very slowly…trekked down the cliff as the clouds were beginning to blur our vision. After carefully crawling on our butts on the loose slate, we reached it!! To our surprise, it was cold!! We had a snowball fight up there and almost made a snow angel. It was so funny to see the “no stilettos allowed” sign there. Yes, we’re serious. Luckily we had our tennis shoes in our backpacks! ;)

Dottie and Debra. Look at that cotton candy cloud right behind Debra.

The morning was cloudy, but we still decided to take the gondola ride up to the Schilthorn, and it was worth the trip. What a ride that was!
We stayed at Hotel Oberland, and they had authentic Swiss fondu ready for us when we arrived. I loved the bread in in this hotel; it was the best we ate anywhere in Europe.
Switzerland was so much more than I expected! Dottie tried to tell me. She had picked this itinerary; I would have never thought about coming here otherwise. It was so calm, so tranquil, so “untouristy,” so unlike anything we had seen before. And it has some of the most amazing scenery you could imagine. Can’t you just hear Julie Andrews singing, “The hills are alive...with the sound of music”? Switzerland is absolutely gorgeous!
